One Of The Best Airports
Flew into Schiphol for the first time in November 2010. A colleague enthusiastically told me what a great airport it is and I was not disappointed! Good shopping, restaurants, rest areas, very efficient. If I ever had to be stuck at an airport for a delay in travel plans, this would be the place! Looking forward to flying into/connecting through this airport again. Kudos to Amsterdam/Schiphol!

Very limited and uncomfortable seating. Food very poor and expensive. Not a good airport.

Wonderful - My Us Friends Tell Me
In my life for several years I have been flying 200 to 250 flights per year. My home base is Amsterdam. Schiphol I saw at least twice a week and additionally 4 to 5 airports during that week. My US friends - who mostly traveled together with me - all love the airport. Clean, quick and compact (transporter belts between terminals), clear communication, good hotel and transport facilities into NL (and abroad). I do not need to say that I am proud to report their findings.

Ams - Schiphol
My country of origin has nothing to do with my selection of Schiphol easily being in the top 5 international airports. All airports have their peculiarities. When you consider efficiency, security, hospitality, and how clean it is, aren't those the things the seasoned traveller is looking for? They even have 'day rooms' for those who want to take a nap for a couple of hours. Try finding this at your local airport if you've got a long layover, or you are not feeling so well. You can make a speedier exit if you have "Nothing to Declare", be the first at the rental counter or whatever. And as to the comments about "subways" I respectfully suggest that you rethink the definition. You won't find any subways in the Netherlands (Not Holland, which is a province within the NL!!) I forget the exact figure but AMS is well below sea level by 10's of metres. The Dutch have a very efficient transit system. Yes you can take a train directly to the central station in Amsterdam which will connect you to any destination within the country, or international destinations. There are also specially marked trains that are dedicated to taking passengers to and from AMS - they even take care of your luggage. The only thing they miss is a place where you can get croquettes !!
