I travel extensively for work and some for pleasure (43 US airports and 5 international in the past 3 years). I just cannot fathom the complaints about Atlanta’s airport. It is the busiest and there are many, many people but the layout is elementary. One terminal connected by a train or walkable passageway to each Concourse. There are no spokes, hubs, weird back hallways, ridiculous buses or trams to navigate (I am looking at you IAD, MIA, ORD and CDG. At MIA I once had to walk the entire "C" from one end to another, go through security again just to change planes. What sort of hot mess is that?). ATL has finally gotten security right and in spite of the overwhelming number of passengers still get you through in a reasonable amount of time. At its worst I waited 50 minutes. Lately it is more like 10 at peak times. I have had as little as 10 minutes to change concourses and make a connection and I made it (my bag came on the next flight, but that happens anywhere). I think the complaints must be inexperienced travelers, agoraphobic folks or people who just love unnecessary complexity. Atlanta is simple, straightforward and all airports should be built this way when possible.
