Adolfo Suárez Madrid Barajas Airport is located next to the Barajas district of Madrid, Spain and was first opened in 1927. It is the Country’s largest and busiest airport with 45,176,978 passengers going through its terminals in 2012. Three or four years ago it was the fourth busiest airport in Europe and the world’s eleventh busiest airport, it has however since slipped a few positions of each and 2012 reports another marginal, yet further decline.
Madrid is the largest city in the Country and is Spain’s capital. There are a selection of attractions within the city, including many famous museums and markets. Madrid is also home to two of the La Liga’s top football teams; Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid. Real’s stadium, the Santiago Bernabeu, is very impressive and there are often a variety of tours, and if you’re lucky maybe even tickets available too, for those who are interested.
