Robin Hood Airport dates back to 1915, although back then it was called Finningley Airfield and served as base to the Royal Flying Corps. During the second World War and the Cold War it was used primarily for training purposes, in the 70’s and 80’s it was home to nuclear armed Vulcan Bombers.

The airport briefly opened as ‘Sheffield City Airport’ before being decommissioned in 1995, but after low-cost flights were introduced, along with rising passenger demand, the airport was reopened in 2005 under the name Robin Hood Airport (causing controversy due to its misleading location).
