What is an airport code? – An airport code is a unique code for an airport, made up of 3 (sometimes 4) letters, used in passenger reservation, ticketing, and baggage-handling systems.
Airport codes are a funny business. A lot of airport codes are simply the first three letters of the airport or a tidy acronym of the airport’s name. Sometimes they make perfect sense, sometimes you can just about see the connection and sometimes they have no relevance to the airport’s name at all.
