I have been though the new terminal and it is very good. I have also had the misfortune to pass through the Air Asia terminal and I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. If you are in transit, you must go through immigration, stamped passport, enter the country, get your bags and go through the entire boarding process again - bag check-in, immigration etc. Nothing to do there and very poor services. The walk to and from the aircraft is a joke. A 3rd world terminal.

Airport Conditions
I just passed through (July 2008) and the airport was being *completely* renovated. Planes are still running but be prepared to have nothing to do and nowhere to go. Allow a few extra minutes to find your way around (although it's a small airport). Food etc. are scarce but there was a small table with some cheap good local food for sale.

A ticket agent said they were shooting for the end of the year for completion. I doubt that will happen; I would guess a year. Hopefully the reno is for more than just adding/upgrading hidden security devices (cement floors were being dug up and the ceilings were torn apart). I doubt it's just that: most building upgrades around here end up being very good.
