Skukuza Impressions
Flew out of Skukuza airport on Saturday 23rd June 2007 on Federal Air direct to Johannesburg. Very pretty airport with apparently only one staff member! Passengers have no security checks, baggage not checked, 'no entry' signs appear to be there for decorative purposes. People are free to roam where they wish. When the plane arrived all prospective passengers walked to the tarmac and saw their bags loaded on board. Crowded around the plane they waited for directions to board, no names taken or passenger lists in evidence. Plane then took off in the opposite direction to that taken for landing. No taking off into the wind at this airport. All in all a surreal experience for a US or European passenger used to several layers of security.
