Lukla Airport
I took a Twin Otter into and out of Lukla airport just about 40 years ago. The view on approach is just stunning. Maybe it's an airport now but back then it was strictly a steep gravel strip not an inch longer than necessary (IMHO). Today it's built up and paved but looks no more friendly than it did in the early 70's. Maybe it's been lengthened. Flying out they lock the brakes at the top of the strip, rev the engines to full power, then pop the brakes and go zoom. On my flight out I was the only passenger on a heavily loaded plane. When we flew off the end of the strip the plane took a stomach churning drop before the props brought us up to speed. Not for the faint-hearted either coming or going. Quite a few accidents.
