Nice atmosphere, friendly and efficient service

...this airport is. Upon arrival, there is a complete ineffective immigration. Only thing that matters to the staff is the entry fee. Customs personnel seems less interested to do their job than reading newspapers in front of arriving Pax. No air con makes the hall a sauna and the trapped heat really breaks down one's patience in no time. There are a few shops but prices are too high, considering the econ situation ZIM finds itself in. Don't buy postcards nor stamps. There is no mailbox at VFA and even though the shop attendant does promise to send the cards for you, they don't. Check-in is slow and the staff don't have access to computers at the entire airport. I wonder how the weight and balance check is done by the ramp? When leaving, there is a café but they got almost nothing to sell. If you are lucky, you might get a hold of a soft drink or even a beer. In summary, it's a badly organized airport with no service whatsoever considering the influx of tourists to Vic Falls. ZIMs economic crisis is to blame but considering the entry fee and the price tags of souvenirs and such things. A little effort isn't too much to ask to kind of make VFA a little bit more hospitable.

Flew into airport, runway in fine condition. But thank God we were business class, 1 immigration desk, takes about 15mins per person to go through. No security. about 10m from entrance to arrivals area, to front of building. When we left, same deal, 2 people at check-in. (no fans or AC, VERY HOT), 1 customs desk, minor security. And then basic lounge area. No food, hardly any drinks. Plus our flight was delayed 3 hours. Very boring and everyone was hungry.
Shopkeeper had to drive to town to get food. But fantastic town and area, don't let the airport stop you.

I fly out of the airport on microsoft flight sim X. This airport although almost 3,500 ASL is actually about 150-200 ft or so "BELOW"- GROUND level. The airport in a HOLE or better yet a LONG TRENCH. The Falls are 15 or so miles North. Great to fly light planes through the river Gorge. And a challenge to fly hi-speed planes in and out of the airport.
