Traveling To MVD
I can reassure any traveler that Montevideo has one of the most beautiful/modern airports in South America. The staff is very helpful and understanding of passengers travelling with children and/or special needs. Crazy line ups are never an issue a this airport, and you can be sure that you can probably find anything that you are looking to purchase within the terminal. It has a McDonald's, pharmacy, restaurants, and even a mobile phone center so that you can purchase cell phones or chips right within the terminal. I can definitely say it is one of my favorite airports.

Mvd Airport
I have travelled to MVD many times for business and did not know what to expect at first but I can now tell you it is a little jewel of an airport. The staff is friendly and helpful and very knowledgeable. I often have bulky bags and items and have never spent more than 20 minutes from the time I enter the building from the aircraft to the curbside. Now a futuristic new terminal is about to open and this will put this airport above any in Latin America and perhaps even one of the best in the entire world. I highly recommend it.

Going through MVD in a wheelchair
The airport was pretty modern, but with few bridges directly to planes. There was a mobile stairway for our plane. However, since there were people on the plane in wheelchairs, they brought up a special truck with a room on a scissors lift. It was raised to the airplane door opposite the stairway, we rolled onto it, the room lowered, the truck drove us to the terminal, and we were deposited at ground level via a special lift on the truck. I was impressed! I was even more impressed when they had a big brawny man get behind my wheelchair and take me through immigration, baggage claim, customs and to a waiting van. Immigration didn't ask me any questions, but did welcome me to Uruguay. The veterinary official looked at the dog's health papers and cleared them both in less than 10 minutes. Customs opened one bag - with my desktop computer - and then waived me through. All of that was accomplished within 45 minutes of the plane touching down.
