More Than Just A Bos
MHT (Manchester-Boston Regional Airport), a medium-sized regional airport about 50 mi (80 km) NNW of Boston Logan International Airport, is located in Manchester, New Hampshire, in the northeastern USA. Manchester is the most populous city north of Boston, Massachusetts, in the six-state U.S. region collectively known as New England (comprising Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont). International nonstop propjet service to Toronto via Air Canada regional. Domestic nonstop jet and/or propjet service provided by the following airlines: Continental, Delta, Northwest, Southwest, United, and US Airways. Domestic nonstop cities served include Atlanta, Baltimore, Charlotte, Chicago-Midway, Chicago-O'Hare, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Detroit, Las Vegas, Minneapolis, Newark, New York-JFK, New York-LaGuardia, Orlando, Philadelphia, Tampa, Washington-Dulles, and Washington-National. Full-service airport includes two concourses with food court with an array of dining choices, duty-free shopping, airport-run frequent-flyer club with amenities, computer access facilities, on- and near-airport hotels and lodging, upper-level airside viewing galleria, and low-cost carpark. All major car-hire agencies onsite. City centre approx. 5 mi (8 km) NW of airport. Amusing bit of recent news: MHT is sometimes confused for its much larger namesake airport (and city) in northwestern England, Manchester International Airport (MAN). In late 2005, an elderly gentleman from Liverpool was returning home from Los Angeles by Continental Airlines (CO), but was mistakenly routed via Cleveland (CLE) to the "other" Manchester instead. He was aware there was some sort of error when he came to board the aircraft in CLE and found himself supposedly crossing the Atlantic on only a regional jet! He then learned from the cabin purser's voice that he was about to fly to a place called Manchester in a state called "New Hampshire," a sibling city he never knew existed before, but rather than do the seemingly rational thing and quickly get himself off the CRJ, he decided to throw caution to the wind and see what was about to befall him. He took his seat and decided to find out just what Manchester, New Hampshire, was all about. Once the CO employees in MHT were made aware of the mistake, the airport and then the entire City of Manchester (N.H., that is) very nearly treated the gentleman as an official emissary from their considerably larger cousin from across the Atlantic. CO rerouted him the next morning on a mainline jet, this time, not an RJ, out of MHT to Newark, N.J. (EWR), and then back to his intended destination of MAN and then home to Liverpool. He and the two sister cities enjoyed some cross-pollinating headline fun. "Good show," MHT, for showing a jolly good sport a jolly good time.
