Easily The Best Large Us Airport
I travel extensively for work and some for pleasure (43 US airports and 5 international in the past 3 years). I just cannot fathom the complaints about Atlanta's airport. It is the busiest and there are many, many people but the layout is elementary. One terminal connected by a train or walkable passageway to each Concourse. There are no spokes, hubs, weird back hallways, ridiculous buses or trams to navigate (I am looking at you IAD, MIA, ORD and CDG. At MIA I once had to walk the entire "C" from one end to another, go through security again just to change planes. What sort of hot mess is that?).

ATL has finally gotten security right and in spite of the overwhelming number of passengers still get you through in a reasonable amount of time. At its worst I waited 50 minutes. Lately it is more like 10 at peak times. I have had as little as 10 minutes to change concourses and make a connection and I made it (my bag came on the next flight, but that happens anywhere). I think the complaints must be inexperienced travelers, agoraphobic folks or people who just love unnecessary complexity. Atlanta is simple, straightforward and all airports should be built this way when possible.

I Work At The Airport
This is the best airport ever and not because I work there. I travel for free of course so I go to a lot of airports and experience how poor these airports are. It they are not old, signs peeling off, the overall airport is just too doggone small, it has a lousy service of the airport personnel.

However, Atlanta Airport is very nice inside and out. After the many upgrades are completed, which includes a host of new restaurants, shopping stores, spas and hair salons. No airport would be able to compete. Not only would it be the world's busiest airport, it would be the world's most visited airport just for the many new things that are to come.

And for those who say the train is too much, what do you expect the world's busiest airport to be: a hop jump and a skip away from concourse to concourse. Ah, I bet you can't wait until concourse 'F' is complete. Yes, we are building ANOTHER concourse.

Major Headache
I try to avoid this airport at all costs. My problem is not so much the underground train, but the concourses themselves. They are crowded, cramped, and there are no moving sidewalks. Picture the running of the bulls in Pamplona, except people are not running from the bulls, but running to make their flights. Another problem is taxiing. Many times you will find your flight landing on a remote runway and having to taxi across several active runways to reach the terminals (which means stop and wait every time your airplane crosses a runway). On short flights (say Pensacola or Savannah to Atlanta) I have found myself on the ground taxiing longer than in the air. This can be a problem if you have a tight connection.

I dislike this airport!
Because I live in NW FL, this is the airport that I have to go through virtually every time I fly to anywhere. It is the busiest airport I have ever used and is not for the faint at heart! One must *ensure* that enough time has been allowed between flights as this airport requires a great deal of maneuvering to get from point A to point B. Yes, the underground train is a good thing, but you will eventually have to make your way through your appointed terminal, which can be a nightmare. The best thing about this airport is its collection of shops and restaurants.

The Best US Airport
This is the most impressive airport I've been. Being the busiest airport in the world makes you wonder how to get around and not get lost in the airport. The information boards really helps. There are a lot of shops around so you always have something to browse while waiting for the next flight. I was there for my connection flight from Houston (IAH) to Orlando (MCO) a couple of times. Just that for the first timer, please make sure that you have your ticket easily available and remember your terminal and gate for the next flight.
