We recently travelled with Ryanair through EMA, linking with a flight to Bergamo. We found the security at the airport to be very strict. Although we had cabin baggage only each and followed all rules regarding dimension, weight, no liquids etc. We arrived at boarding gate to be told that handbags had to be put INTO cabin bag. This was difficult to do and involved taking everything out of handbag and then trying to squash it all into our small suitcase. After we got through security we saw everybody take their handbags back out! Unbelievable! We have travelled in the few months through Dublin, Edinburgh, Bergamo, Berlin, Gothenburg, Nimes and Carcassonne and have NEVER been asked to do this before. When my husband complained he was told in a brusque manner that he could leave the airport, he would not be allowed to fly. After a groveling apology he was allowed through. The unnecessary stress that this added to our holiday was significant and surely would not lessen any security risk. We are a (middle aged) couple with a teenage daughter. We shall never again fly through EMA.

We travel as a family of 4 adults, when booking our holiday we always make sure we go from Nema. We find the check-in very strict but also friendly. We travel 2 or 3 times a year mostly to the EU. In the last 12 years we have not had a delay. There are charter and budget flights. The food in cafeteria is ok but tables could be cleaned a little quicker. Other than that, keep the traveler happy, they will keep coming to Nema.
