Used this airport for the first time in Sept. 2011. Nothing bad to say about this one. Enormous check hall, good signage, plenty of room. The usual cafe areas at the usual high prices for average quality. I didn't have much time to look around but when I go on holiday it's NOT to the airport. Good, roomy and functional. Like most things in Spain, it's geared towards the tourist trade so it's not too fancy. Everything worded well and as expected. No complaints at all here.

Travelling PMI for approx 24 years now, you have to consider today's airport Son San Juan an airport of long distances. After checking in at a central area and passing a central security gate, you are directed to four concourses. Depending on your departure gate and also depending on the queue time at the security gate, it may take up to 40 minutes from check-in counters to your gate. Nice: They have some smokers cabins inside the concourses. Distances and times may seem far respectively long also when arriving at PMI. Though providing 18 or 20 baggage carousels, sometimes the bags of three different flights are released at a time on the same belt while other carousels aren't used. That may result in waiting times of up to 45 minutes and also often causes heavily crowded belts especially if wide-bodies have arrived.

PMI airport is the third largest airport in Spain, after MAD and BCN. Contrary to other airports, PMI currently has a single passenger terminal which handles all departures and arrivals. In particular, all check-in windows (either national and international) are together in the departures area, organized by flying company. Boarding gates, however, are distributed in four different corridors: A, B, C, and D.

Palma airport is excellent but you need to allow at least 15 minutes (or even longer if you're infirm) to walk from check-in to the departure gates
