Welkom City Airport
The Welkom Airport is not a passenger airport as such. Local people use the airport for their own use only. There are no scheduled flights to the city. It's still a lovely airport when it was in use. A few years ago there were daily flights to and from Johannesburg international airport. The reason for the cancellation is because it is to expensive to Fly from the city to Johannesburg. Johannesburg is about 250km from Welkom and it's far cheaper to drive. South African airways domestic ticket prices are very expensive and it's much cheaper to fly with Low-cost carriers in South Africa, like www.1time.co.za or www.kulula.com.

There is talk to convert the city's airport to a cargo airport to relieve the air traffic from Johannesburg.
