Terrible
One of the worst airports in the world I have been to, and I have been to a lot. Immigration is very slow for both, in and out of the country. Local airport workers will try to help you get your luggage fast but then will ask for money so you must have something with you, if you have small local currency is better, but that doesn't stop them to ask you for Euros or US Dollars. Once you are finally out, dozens of locals will come to try to sell you SIM CARDS and try to get you into their taxis - DO NOT DO IT - for that reason is a must to have someone to wait for you there. Going out you'll find a terminal without A/C and very slow lines for check in, so come early; after you finally have gone through passport control you have a very small waiting area, if you travel Air France to Paris as I did you will have a big waiting room, no windows at all, but with enough A/C. Just hope there will be no power cuts because when the electricity comes back the A/C won't work, and remember, there are no windows. The only airport in Western Africa that is worth something is in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, but do not get big hopes for it.

Dakar Airport
The airport is okay but the aggressive hawkers who set the tone for the rest of your stay in Senegal are a disgrace. The Police and Security don't act and on my last visit joined in the corruption by fining my wife for parking in a perfectly legitimate parking space - no receipt for the paid fine. President Wade's brave attempts at bringing his country into a modern world economy are being strangled by the aggressive and unpleasant nature of much of the beautiful countries inhabitants. Go to Bamako instead - much nicer.

I Had No Problems
Just visited Senegal in November and didn't have any problems other than my own of not knowing the language. People I met were quite understanding and helpful. I live the boy scouts code, "Be Prepared"
Common Sense Travel Tips:
1. Carry baby wipes for those times when toilet paper is not available.
2. NEVER put ID/money/credit cards in baggage, ALWAYS keep it on you.
3. Put valuables (ie expensive gifts) in carry on luggage

Shameful Airport
I'm Senegalese and I arrived in Yoff airport and my luggage was late because of some strike in Belgium, then I had to come back next day to get them, and when I came, I discovered that one of my bags was open by breaking the lock and 13 new cellphones were missing and two pairs of ladies shoes. It's very shameful, somebody comes from far away and bring gifts for their family and friends. Shameful airport.
