Davao City Airport
I have used this hugely impressive airport six times and have always compared it favourably with the chaotic NAIA at Manila. The main terminal is comparatively new, having replaced one destroyed by a terrorist bomb in 2003. It is a stylish and functional design with ample seating, a good variety of cafes and souvenir shops and an endless supply of porters to assist with your trolley. Because of the recent terrorist activity, security, starting at the approach road. is reassuringly rigorous. Covered walkways shelter passengers from any tropical storms and the runway itself is long enough to take bigger jets such as 747s and A340s. For a provincial airport in a country that is poor by any standards, Davao comes as a welcome surprise.
