Just an update. This airport has now got air conditioning is is much better for it. It's still much the same, and the airport charge is still a very cheap PHP30. The food outlet is still the same, being small and very inexpensive, great value actually. The baggage reclaim area is still small and crowded, expect a fight to get near it. The new airport is being built, but will be several years in the completion. Better and you will still recall this place with some affection. All flying used to be like this.

The most appalling airport I have ever used. It is HOT, normal daytime temperature is in the region of 33C to 38C, and this airport has NO AC. There is food and drink available inside, but is really very primitive, as are the toilet facilities. The buildings are small and overcrowded, the baggage carousel (only one) is small and be prepared for a scramble to get near it. Taxis are available and are reasonably priced. Tell the GETTER, that you are traveling only locally and then negotiate the price with the DRIVER ALONE, it will save you some money and the driver will get more of the fare than he would otherwise do.
On the good side, the staff are friendly and helpful although the check in is very cramped and hot. The security is tight but quite fast and efficient and the airport security charge is very modest, about 50 PHP. This airport is very Third World, so don't expect much and you won't be disappointed. It tries hard to be as good as it can be and you WILL remember it. A new airport has begun construction some miles away and will be ready at some time in the distant future. Believe it or not this airport is VFR only and does not have a ILS. So if the weather is poor your take off time to Cagayan may be delayed, but only rarely is the weather that poor.
