No Atm/credit Card Service
Star Peru failed to inform us that there was an airport/departure tax at Juliaca. We had neither soles or USD cash left at the time, and had no time to stop at an ATM en route to the airport. The cashier refused to accept the Chilean peso (which was the only thing we had, and we were offering very good exchange rate to soles or USD.) He insisted there was also no debit/credit card service at JUL. He told us to cab back to the city and get the $7USD, which was going to make us miss our flight! A kind-hearted American lady ended up giving us the money so we didn't get stranded. The ironic part was that the gift shop just beyond the security check point DID have visa service! As one of the few airports in the south of Peru, I believe that JUL should have been equipped with electronic payment method, especially when a shop one wall away is! With many tourists coming from neighboring countries such as Chile, Bolivia, Argentina, these countries' currencies should be accepted at posted exchange rates. The airlines operating out of the airport should inform their customers at the time of booking of the airport tax.
