More Improvements, New Name.
Now called Te Anau Manapouri Airport.
At the moment air cruise operator, Pioneer, operates Convair 580s into Manapouri once a week for the convenience of tourists visiting Fiordland. Saves an all day trip by bus from Queenstown.
Air New Zealand (Mt Cook Airline) is contemplating to return a daily Q300 service at this airport for the same reasons.
This airport will also become a diversion point for Queenstown Airport when that airport is closed to adverse conditions.
Manapouri Airport Improvements
Manapouri airport is a natural gateway to the splendour of Fiordland and especially Milford Sound. The nearest township of reasonable size and facilities is Te Anau.
