Airport?
We spent our honeymoon on GBI 23 years ago and were surprised to discover there is now a real airport. We flew there in a single engine aircraft, made one pass to scare the livestock off the pasture, and then landed on a grass strip and came to a sudden halt in the mud where our pilot had to wait until it dried to return to Auckland. The only airport structure was a phone booth which we used to ring the local (I think only) hotel which was lovely. We hope the island is still as pristine as it was despite the new airstrip.
