This is an easy airport to negotiate, in spite of the bad press surrounding visits to Myanmar. The staff are a little slow but they are not unhelpful. It is a dingy and relatively uncomfortable boarding area, which can make those lengthy waits for flights a trial.

My family and I visit Myanmar regularly. We find the airport is a little slow getting through, but certainly not intimidating. Normally, everyone landing has all the relevant documents in place so there are no problems.

Be wary when checking in. The locals like to assist you with your bags. All good intentions however, they also want dollars for their friends because they have actually 'looked' at your bag! On one occasion they actually followed us into the terminal building harassing us for money

As a result, the authorities have 'banned' non-travelers from entering the terminal building, making it nice and quiet for those actually traveling.

If only governments at western airports would do the same!
