Kingfisher is going to start a new direct flight connecting Chennai- Rajahmundry from 27-Mar-2011. But a return journey will have a halt at Vijayawada for 30 mins. It is a good news for local people.

As of Jan 2009, the Rajhmundry Airport is in a better shape since I first started from here in 2006. Scanning Equipment for Check-in and hand baggage has been installed. The departure lounge is far better with airconditioning and good enough space. People are conscious and staff courteous. Jet operates an in-out flight to Hyderabad. Kingfiher operates a direct flight from Bangalore [not in the reverse direction though]. Chennai is also connected through a Kingfisher flight. A good canteen or a fast-food joint would do well here. Parking fee is charged .. why? It's a dilemma: there is no proper parking place. Airport is likely to be upgraded as a huge Airforce base is likely to come up near the present Airport. One of the airlines will do good business if it connects Rajahmundry to Bangalore directly or through Tirupati. Flights now are having easily 80% occupancy.

Strategically it is a good connecting point for both business and tourists who visit Rajahmundry and surrounding places. The connectivity to major other cities like Bangalore etc and in crease in number of flights by current operator and introduction flights by other operators will be crucial in the development of this airport.

Looks like they are still doing lot of work to make improvements in the Airport (Visitors waiting area, Baggage check-in, Runway expansion, Approach roads...etc).

Now it takes only 1 hour to reach from Hyderabad to Rajahmundy. This is a great news, hoping to see more destinations from Rajahmundry.

The airport has to be given a face lift and encourage many airlines to land. Airlines can be attracted by giving reduction on landing parking charges, and airport taxes.
I think Rajahmundry Airport has lot of potential for traffic.
