Safety
This is the safest place I have ever been and have been 5 times in the last 4 years and plan to move down soon. Roatan is safer than the U.S.A. and the people there are friendly and take care of the tourists as that is their main source of income. Do not be afraid here.

No Public Phones
I recently traveled to Roatan Honduras via Roatan Airport. I was supposed to be met and greeted at the airport by my hotel’s shuttle, which did not arrive because of a change in ownership at the hotel. I discovered that there were no public telephones at the Roatan Airport (RTB). I believe that this is a very dangerous situation. Because there were no public telephones, I was forced to rely solely on information given to me by taxi drivers waiting outside, one of whom I had to utilize for transportation to the new hotel. I was lucky that I was not harmed in any way. But, if the Roatan Airport continues to not make public phones available, some other U.S. tourists may not be so lucky.
