Let Down
HAD GREAT EXPECTATIONS ABOUT 'ZAKYNTHOS' BUT THE AIRPORT WAS HORRIBLE LET DOWN IT STANK OF DEAD ANIMALS AND THE SIZE NEEDS SOME ATTENTION, THE TOILETS, I COULD NOT GET MY HEAD AROUND HOW THEY COULD EXPECT PEOPLE TO USE THEM WAS BEYOND ME!

Not A Nice Airport. . .
Zakynthos is not a nice airport. One half of it is really nice - the other is awful. When you land it is like many other Greek airports - small terminal, small control tower, and small airfield. Like other airports in Greece your ferried to and from the aircraft by bus - and you are taken to a beautiful air conditioned and spacious terminal. There was room - marble floors and walls and it had a really nice atmosphere.
On the other hand the terminal used for departures is not very nice. Unless your first in the queue and the first bus - you will be made to wait outside. There are 6 check in desks and thats the reason for the hold up. Once you pass through security into the departures hall it becomes hot, smelly and sticky. The room is no bigger than a high school sports hall and there is also a small duty free area and a small smokers room. The toilets are downstairs which are accessed by a spiral staircase and in the toilets the doors have no locks - no toilet seats and they smell bad!
Overall this airport is not good, its in dire need of renovation and extension. The arrivals terminal is beautiful - but the departures terminal is awful!
