My first visit to Frankfurt airport was 25 year ago and I loved it back then. I came back last month ans still loved it out of almost all airports around the world I've been to. Frankfurt-Main still one of my favourites!

I travel annually to Tehran on Lufthansa and change flights in Frankfurt. While the attitude of the airport personnel is in sharp contrast with that of Lufthansa personnel, my main problem has been the loss of cash in $$ that I carry with me in money belts, body pouches or envelopes, as this is the only purchasing method in present day Iran. To date I have lost $1800.00; $100.00, 300.00, 400.00 and finally $1000.00 on my last transit on Oct. 19, 2011. As these losses were discovered only during unpacking on arrival in Tehran the only time I could report and lodge a complaint was on my return to USA passing again through Frankfurt. As a rule my complaints are handled with sarcasm and disbelief and brushed aside. So a word of caution; do not let your cash and valuables out of sight during security inspections. Insist that they be inspected VISUALLY IN YOUR PRESENCE. Comments regarding similar problems are welcome.

Frankfurt airport is one of the worst airports on this planet. Its personnel are so racist. If you are not white or German don't even think of going there. The representatives at the ticket counters have an unbelievably bad attitude. You pay thousands of dollars for a ticket and at least you expect to be treated with respect and not being looked down on you and being discriminated against. The airport staff are acting like animals. They don't know how to say "excuse me", "thanks". No wonder, they have been raised as disgusting animals. They only thing they know is barking, being racist with airport visitors.

I flew into Frankfurt on Lufthansa to connect with another Lufthansa flight to Toronto Canada, and think that the airport staff need to take some tips from the Lufthansa flight crew on good manners and how to treat fellow human beings. The airport is huge so make sure have leave enough time to connect with your next flight. It's very old and in lots of places there were ceiling tiles hanging off, and places on the ceilings where you could see water had leaked through and stained it. Lots of areas were closed off with hazard tape and you could see it was just because that part was in bad repair. I sat on some ripped seats and watched water drip from the ceiling into a bucket on my return flight, and could not get over how dirty the lounge was and the toilets were so bad that you had to hold your nose and just do your thing. This airport is huge, they bus you in from the planes which also adds to your delay. I stood on a bus for over forty minutes before we made the one mile journey to the arrivals area. The bus driver drives like he's on a racetrack and seamed to no be concerned about the standing passengers. Departing from the airport is hard on your legs as you have to walk miles to the gates and it's poorly sign posted. When you get there you queue up and think it's all going fine until they open your flight and everyone surges forward as the staff try and funnel three lines of people through a gab big enough for one line of people. I know it's to try and get the plane loaded faster but all it does is causes people to push and nudge you out of the way with some peoples tempers getting a little bit strained. Once on-board the Lufthansa flight I was back in the really good care of people that treated me with the same respect that I bestowed on them. The airport is big, dirty, the staff are rude and unhelpful, you have to walk for ages to your gate, you spend too long on the shuttle bus and just make your flight. I would only use this airport based on cost, I would not make it an airport of choice and certainly would not recommend it to anyone.

I flew CAI > FRA > ORD. While the German airline I used was AMAZING. I was much delayed because I had to walk about 1 mile to my gate...at 30 weeks pregnant! If I had known it was that far I would have demanded assistance. When I finally got to the gate I was asked to show my doctor's note to fly, which I did. They allowed me to pass then pulled me out of line while they called several people by phone to check about allowing me to fly. Over priced items in the shops (unless it was booze.. c'mon it IS Germany after all) Hard to find any assistance.
