Cairo Airport Terminals
They are trying to improve. However, from the moment you step out of the plane everything is dirty and dusty. Tax-free shops insist on $US cash for stocks of 4-decades before. At arrival immigration counters it is utterly chaotic and absolute mess. Toilets are smelly with attendants keeping drying papers for exchange of tips. You are harassed by cleaners for money, and porters have no set of charges except to empty your pockets as much as they can. Compared to other airports in the ME region, Cairo Airport terminals score minus 100. Outrageously, ach car (private, taxi) is charged 5 Egyptian Pounds to even drop or collect passengers.

This Airport Is A Dream
Terminal 3 is a dream. You can do whatever you dream of. Duty free shops are like dozens with a really low prices and the food court is fantastic. The gates are clean and everything is great.
only the smoking room is very far with basic supplies.

Fantastic!
I used terminal 1...The departure is wonderful. A bit small but so clean and with all the facilities you need. The arrival for Terminal 1 is good too. But the departure is better. If you want to see Terminal 3 you have to book with Egypt Air. Terminal 3 is FAR BETTER THAN HEATHROW AIRPORT. It is a grand achievement without doubt. However, it serves only the passengers of Egypt Air.

I Hated It!
Just be sure to be nice with the custom agents, because I didn't put my migration form into my passport, they took it away for the so called 'security check issue' and I almost missed my flight. Just it's terrible, the roll securities are so dirty that my coats got black stains. The arrival is a total chaos and can cause risky situations, so be sure to have a contact that helps you out to passover the arrival customs.

Improving
I mostly use Terminal 2 which is a nightmare, very small and crowded with poor facilities. Terminal 1 has undergone major renovations that transformed it into one of the best terminal buildings in the region that should be able to compete with its neighbors. I hope they improve Terminal 2 just like terminal 1!
