Good Location
The location is excellent and the airport is improving. Remember you will have to deplane using movable stairs. Also, this airport is all al fresco. Basically this airport is three hangars hooked together. Delta and Continental share one exit terminal and American the other. There are some shops and food places inside so you can have some food while you wait. Also, the authorities allow you to bring in sealed drinks. This includes water and other libations.
You need to arrive two hours before flight since you will have to go three lines to exit the airport. First the exit tax, then check in the bags, then go through emigration.
As to entry this quick and is in the third hangar. The problem is limited bathroom space and only one carousel for luggage. Hence it takes awhile to get the luggage and their is almost no tourist information. Also, book the rental car ahead of time since they will meet you at the airport, but there are no car rentals desk at this minimal facility.

Perfect Location
I love this airport. 20 minutes to Playa Hermosa or Coco beach, 50 minutes to Tamarindo. Not having to deal with San Jose and being right where you want to be is awesome. There is every rental car agency available that pick you up in air conditioned shuttles and get you off and running quickly. I just wish their was more flights down there and the price was better. You only have to clear security with the people on your flight so that is not that bad. The airport has a good restaurant, gift shop and nice sitting area while you wait.

Liberia Airport
I have been to this airport 3 times in the last 8 years. It has really evolved. The first time I went you deplaned and walked into an open air palapa. No walls, just grab your luggage from the designated area and walk through a brief customs declaration. Since then it has been upgraded and remodeled (there are walls now). There are some small shops for souveniers and food. There is a bank where you pay your exit tax and could exchange some cash. There are plenty of people willing to help you with your bags and provide transportation. All in all, not a bad airport, just small.
