Ferry Service To Mainland China
Here is a tip for inbound passengers bound for the Pearl River Delta (PRD) area of mainland China. There is a fast and very efficient ferry service from HKG to Shekou Ferry Port in Shenzhen. Passengers can check their hold baggage straight through to Shekou (airport code ZYK) on check-in. On arrival at HKG, buy your ferry ticket at the well signposted desk and go straight to ferry. As this a transfer, you do not have to go through Hong Kong immigration. An efficient Visa service is available at Shekou during normal working hours

Worth A Visit In Its Own Right
Chek Lap Kok is very efficient, clean, and forward looking. The architecture of the building is the equivalent of a modern cathedral. Inbound arrivals are well sign-posted and the long journey from the western piers to Immigration is speeded along by the subterranean shuttle. Onward connections to the centre of town via the MTR are fast and comfortable - the standard for all airports to follow.
In a marked contrast to Heathrow, HKIA is spacious and uncrowned. Once past check-in, the departure lounge is vast and surprisingly quiet with a wide range of shops to browse. A broad range of tastes are catered for in the food stalls, and free wifi access is provided.
Very deserving of the Best Airport awards of the last few years.
