Airport Update
October 2011 we celebrated the closing of the old, single level terminal building and welcomed the new, modern 4 gate terminal, 3 gates with an extra that could presumably be an international gate when the oil and gas business in Shengli really booms. To date, there still is no ILS in place so if it's foggy or the pollution level is too high, the planes will not leave their departure city for DOY until it is cleared. I'm guessing the ceiling minimum is around 1,000ft based on recent experience. Don't expect to be notified of this in either PVG or PEK, they'll simply post the delay and make you wait. A colleague recently left DOY for HKG via PVG, the trip took 12 hours. We still get daily service from PEK on Hainan and six times weekly from PVG on Juneyao.

To/from Dongying Airport
It takes approx 30-40mins to get to or from the airport from Dongying West City. The taxi there cost 50 yuan and back was 60 yuan. There is no alternative transport to taxi. The terminal was clean and with only one flight a day to Beijing and three a week to Shanghai at the moment, check-in is very fast.

The runway was relatively smooth and the facility was clean and spacious. I flew on Hainan Air. Dongying does NOT show up as a destination option on their web site!
