I visited the island of Sal back in 1995 and the airport needed a lot of work and infrastructures but it seems like the Capeverdeans got the hint because I was there last year and it was pretty clean with a lot of new stuff like gift shops, a nicely stocked duty free shop and a lot of new machinery, a café and restaurant as well as a nice waiting room. The town of Santa Maria looked like everything is under construction, with new hotels and resorts popping all over the beautiful pink/white sandy beach where hundreds of European tourists are enjoying the blue/turquoise clear water while kite surfing among two world champions of wind surf (François Guy and Josh Ângulo that live there). Meliã Hotel with its 'one of the best beach bars in the world' (CNN), and Riu Hotels and Resort are real competitions to the Bahamas and Canary Islands hotels; watch out Caribbeans!

I would like to inform that the airport of Sal and Boa Vista go into work to extend the waiting rooms, and other improvements this year. It is still expected to make improvements on small aerodromes. The Cape verde airports are directly related to major European capitals by the airlines Arkefly, Air Italy, TAP, TACV, Neos, Thomsonfly, TUIfly, Luxair, Travel Service, and much more.

I visited the island of Sal for 2 weeks last summer and enjoyed the experiences at Amilar Cabral. Although it is quite small its services are decent, including a good cafe for snacks and a coupe of shops. The international departures area is not that big, but we weren't waiting for long. Even the domestic section was clean and of a good standard. Not the most modern or spectacular airport in the world but very functional. During the stay we made 2 additional inter-island flights to Boa Vista and Santiago with Cape Verde Express and found both amazing! Took off and landed on-time.

I spent 15 days on this island, holidaying; good airport. I flew with the TAP - Portuguese Airlines. It was a good experience.

Once I travelled with Aeroflot from Buenos Aires, Argentina to Moscow, Russia and the plane stopped at SID (Sal Airport) for fuel providing (20 hours flight time). I was surprised with that place with dry mountains in the middle of the ocean. The airport is quite small with a cafeteria and a small duty free shop.
