Specific permission to visit/land on the island, must be obtained from Canadian Coast Guard, before arriving. Runway is sand, and must be designated as safe landing area, by Island Staff. Runway normally located on South Beach. Beach which is 10km long, and runway could be located anywhere. Beach Hazards are: flooding, wet and dry quicksand, frozen surfaces, drifting sand, sharp objects, tree stumps, horses, seals, and migratory birds, and seagulls. Runway dimension 800ft to 1500ft usual length. Width usually 40ft to 75ft average. Longer runways possible depending on beach conditions only. Uncontrolled traffic corridor, offshore helicopters, military aircraft, fisheries, and pollution patrols, Coast Guard helicopters and fixed wing charter flights.
