OK But Not Great
My home base, so I know it very well. Compared with other places in the world, not bad, specially since the latest revamp (US terminal front-end). Long walks (for example from furthest US gates, 80-85, to customs), but in general quite user-friendly. The roads around it are something else (been in reconstruction for a couple of years, probably will be for a number of years still), no on-site rail service, expensive on-site parking ($19/day, off-site is $12-15). I'd take this over, say, IAD any day of the week.

Not As Bad As Expected
This air port is not as bad as expected. Recently I had to use YUL airport. It seems OK but at least I can say that it is better than Ottawa as at least staff replies in English if you talk to them.

French Radio Communication
Concerning the radio communication, Dorval, or the rest of the Quebec province airports are not the only international airports to speak a different language than English. Go to France and you will hear French, go to Russia, you will hear the controllers speak in Russian, go to China and the same will happen in Mandarin this time, go to Mexico or many other Latin American country and you will hear the pilots and controllers speak in Spanish. So, can we stop talking about the French in the air of the only French speaking area of North America?! It is a non-issue. You should be proud; it brings a different taste to this continent. Please get over it.

Good Services
Facilities needs a face lift - hard to compete with the grace of Toronto, but services are good; i was really impressed with security, detailed and efficient. One of the first airports in Canada to introduce self tagging of baggage. Thirty Six Dollars gets you downtown.

Poor Design
This is a very strange airport. It has to be French in design as there is no convenience to anything from getting to the airport to parking, to check-in to walk what feels like 3 miles to reach a new terminal that looks like a dentists waiting room. The few services that are offered are very limited and very overpriced. They should have made Mirabel the main airport !!
