1964 Beef Isaland Airport
1964 Beef Isaland Airport
Picture was taken 3/18/1964 on approach to Beef Island "International" Airport. My wife and I were on our way from Saint Thomas to Marina Cay. Cost of charter flight via Saint Thomas Air Taxi plane (owner - Paul R. Randall) was $33 for two. No radio communication with Marina Cay -- so pilot buzzed Marina Cay, the signal for them to send a Boston Whaler to Beef Island to pick us up. On landing (no buildings -- just an unattended dirt strip) we carried our bags down to a short wooden dock and off to Marina Cay (daily cost including meals $30) and a great vacation. Return flight was a reversal -- plane buzzed Marina Cay, boat trip to Beef Island, plane back to St. Thomas.
