It is an airfield which a small but clean passenger station, in which schedule flights are kept mainly in summer or vacations months, like December to January and July. The city is a gate to a delta river estuary, a few found in the world, as the Mekong river. It´s wild and largely untouched nature could be of great appreciation, but just a few hotels with only basic amenities are found.This region of Brazilian northeast has summer all year round, with some rains from February to may only. But is a very poor one, and distant of the Brazilian largest and most affluent cities, except from Fortaleza. Years ago regular services went from Varig DC 3 , HS 748 e some 737-200, Paraense FH 227 and Vasp 737-200. More recently there have been services from TAF with Cessna Caravans, Nordeste flying Embraer Brasilias, and Litoranea with Let 410. Almost of all them had Fortaleza as the last or next stop. I don´t think there is one today.
The highlights of the airport have been scattered charters from Italy in Air Italy 757´s. But even regular charter service has not been established on a regular basis. The pavement has just been redone.
