Carlos Ruhl
I've been living in Cruz Alta since 1983. This airport was put out of business in 1987 when Rio-Sul (a subsidiary of Varig Airlines) stopped the route Cruz Alta- Porto Alegre (the state's capital). In its heyday this dirt runway airfield had two daily flights to Porto Alegre. The equipment were the old Dc-3s and C-46 Curtiss Commandos. The name of the airport is a homage to Karl Heinz Ruhl, a famous pilot for Varig Airlaines who died in an airline crash.
